If this old Heathkit scope reminds you of your test equipment, read on. This article highlights T&M gear on display at IBC 2017.
Does your test bench need a refresh? IBC 2017 is the best place to see the latest in new video, audio, RF and broadcast test and measurement technology.
The showbiz expression “Lights, camera, action” conveniently omits the word “test.” But without test and measurement equipment, TV as we know it wouldn’t exist.
TV broadcast test & measurement (T&M) gear may be less glamorous than bright lights and streamlined cameras sporting huge lenses, but the action and live demonstrations in these exhibits attract some of the sharpest broadcast engineers in the world.
The Omnitek Ultra TQ broadcast waveform rasterizer supports broadcast production in studios, control rooms and OB trucks.

The UHD/HD-SDI analysis capabilities have also been enhanced with audio generation/embedding plus a new range of moving test patterns. The Qx range's 12G/6G/3G/HD-SDI physical layer analysis employs patented real-time eye (RTE) technology to highlight SMPTE compliance issues. These analysis workflows have been strengthened with automation, allowing tests to be performed faster, more reliably, and at a lower cost.
A new IP option is available for the PHABRIX Sx TAG portable generator/analyzer.
PHABRIX's ultra-portable Sx TAG signal generator, analyzer, and monitoring instrument is now available with SMPTE 2022-6 IP encapsulation/decapsulation. The Sx TAG also operates with 3G/HD/SD-SDI and analogue video, and it can be used in remote locations with monitoring over a network.
Key instruments include a multiformat waveform and vectorscope, as well as video monitoring using a 16:9 screen plus 16-channel audio monitoring. An intuitive, color-coded interface speeds testing workflows, and operation with mains or battery power provides versatility on the move.
The PHABRIX Rx 2000 rack-mounted generator, analyzer, and monitoring system is designed for OB trucks and broadcast monitoring.
The new IP decapsulation/encapsulation option for the Sx TAG portable range will also debut at IBC2017, along with 2K-SDI monitoring and a more versatile, dual instrument display with the Rx 2000 rackmount generator/analyzer.
The Rx 2000 has been enhanced with 2K-SDI support and more flexible, built-in instrument displays. Both integrated monitors can now present a wide array of test instruments to offer greater versatility.
Rx 2000 can monitor up to four channels using an external display, with up to 16 instruments per channel. The advanced Rx range provides faster fault diagnosis, using 3G/HD/SD video capture for intermittent errors and remote access.
The Plura Broadcast UNB-4 ultra-narrow bezel displays are made for video walls.
PLURA Broadcast makes high-quality timing/synchronization equipment (former Alpermann+Velte) and a wide range of high-performance multi-function 4K and 3G video monitors (up to 84") engineered specially for digital broadcast and professional video production.
In addition to exhibiting timing/sync gear and video monitors, PLURA will also demonstrate the 3G-ready FTM-043-3G field testing monitor with audio and video test generators. The FTM-043-3G incorporates into one device what previously took thee devices to achieve, replacing a SD generator, HD generator, and a Q-box for audio applications.
All Promax RANGER Neo TV spectrum analyzers now include the new “4K frame grabber” function, which allows viewing of 4K-UHD video. UHD video frames are decoded and shown in the form of a slide show allowing the user to effectively confirm that the UHD content is received properly.
