Cloud Compute Infrastructure At IBC 2025

In celebration of the 2025 IBC Show, this article focuses on the key theme of cloud compute infrastructure and what exhibitors at the show are doing in this key area of technological enablement.

The lure of software-based systems is the promise of flexibility and scalability. The concept of a software-based systems stack that can be pre-configured, tested, deployed and ramped down according to the requirements of each production, has many potential benefits. It also presents many new IT and engineering challenges. The term ‘cloud’ is widely confused. Cloud Compute Infrastructure is an approach to IT system design. Its fundamental principle is provision of flexible host compute resource that can be used to deploy different software stacks according to need. That compute resource can be local, in an owned data center across town, or it can be a public cloud provider. It’s a big subject right now and one that will touch almost everything on the show floor.

  • ‘Data center model’ compute infrastructure - aka ‘cloud’ infrastructure. Defined more accurately as private (on or off prem) compute resource & infrastructure, or public cloud (hyper scaler) compute resource & infrastructure. 
  • The hardware :
    - Actual servers - host computers physical & virtual, and integrated CPU & GPU processing resource.
    - Pooled processing resource - GPU resources and FPGA arrays.
    - Deployable AI infrastructure. 
  • The software tools required to configure and manage the hardware resources. Software systems designed to leverage the benefits of this infrastructure model.
