Consortium Of Sports Tech Startups To Work With CBS Sports To Boost Its Live Coverage

CBS Sports is looking for some new technology ideas for its sports coverage and is encouraging sports tech startups to join with the network and its new collaboration partner, Israel-based Hype Sports Innovation, to facilitate the next generation of applications for artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and remote broadcasting.

Hype bills itself as 'an accelerator for innovation and technology in sport'. It's business model is based around building a network of sports organisations, investors and startups. It claims an 'eco-system' of over 70,000 “followers, experts, investors, and mentors”.

As part of the new agreement, CBS Sports said it will tap into Hype’s network of sports technologies to explore new and innovative solutions in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and remote broadcasting.

"We are excited to work with Hype Sports Innovation and their technology companies from around the world to further enhance our coverage and deliver never-before-seen technology to our audiences, while developing more creative and compelling content, as well as innovative experiences" said Jason Cohen, vice president technical operations, CBS Sports.

Hype Sports Innovation said it works with over 250 sports organisations and broadcasters as part of what they call “the largest global ecosystem for sports tech,” consisting of teams, leagues, federations and a large equity holding portfolio of sports tech startups.

The company’s website states: “We pride ourselves on the value we generate for our startups by engaging with our committed brands such as The Royal Belgian Football Association, SportFive, FIBA, Start Sports, and more.”

Hype claims to have successfully generated hundreds of business engagements and deals through its ecosystem.

"We are committed to continue pushing the boundaries of sports experience through our collaboration with CBS Sports,” said Amir Raveh, founder and CEO of Hype Sports Innovation. “Together [with CBS Sports], we have the opportunity to create an unforgettable sports viewing experience by introducing new technology and innovation that fans will truly love.”

With partnerships on four continents, Hype Sports Innovation has built a global sports innovation virtual startup accelerator network, while offering investment funding through its Hype Capital venture capital business unit for its Hype Global Virtual Accelerator program. This helps startups from all over the world to convert their products into commercial solutions, showcase them on the world stage and offer various opportunities to get real pilots with potential customers and secure additional investments.

Sports technology startups interested in collaborating with CBS Sports and Hype on developing new technologies can apply here.

The company continues to pursue similar collaboration agreements with other professional sports leagues and teams, signing SD Ponferradina (a Spanish football team) in 2023, DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga and the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks in 2021 and the Professional Golf Association in 2019. All are now part of the Hype Global Virtual Accelerator program, to identify and test the latest and most advanced sports technologies for both on and off the field (personal training) use.
