Cobalt Iron Bolsters Support For Amazon Web Services

Cobalt Iron’s Compass Commander GUI provides ‘Single Pane of Glass’ for customers to manage AWS VM Snapshots in concert with other enterprise backup events.
Cobalt Iron, a provider of SaaS-based enterprise data protection is enhancing its support for Amazon Web Services (AWS). In addition to backup and data protection, the company’s Compass enterprise software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform now enables seamless management of AWS virtual machine (VM) snapshots.
Through this new capability, Compass users are able to manage backup retentions and schedules for AWS VM snapshots using the Compass Commander GUI, the same interface with which they manage their enterprise backups. Users no longer have to spend extra time logging separately into AWS or other tools, and backup administrators can be confident that Compass is recording and reporting both AWS and non-AWS VM backup events within a single GUI. Commander can be configured to add insight via reporting and timely notifications of snapshot events, if desired.
“Enhancing our support for AWS with the new VM capability allows our customers to access and manage the entire backup landscape from Compass Commander — easily managing scheduling and reporting of their AWS VM snapshots alongside other backup clients,” said Robert Marett, chief technology officer at Cobalt Iron. “This in turn simplifies operations, while saving time, reducing costs, and increasing security.”
