Paradigm’s Hornet 100GX Gains Inmarsat GX Commercial And Military Ka-Band Type Approval

The Paradigm HORNET 100GX terminal has received full type approval for use over Inmarsat’s Global Xpress (GX) network for commercial and military Ka-band.

GX is the world’s first and only commercial seamless mobile wideband service available worldwide. In U.S. government service since July 2014, GX has established itself as the gold standard for reliable communications across land, sea and air domains for assured mobile connectivity.

The HORNET 100GX flyaway terminal is a compact-sized mobile multiband solution supplied with the PIM (Paradigm Interface Module), designed to simplify operation, reduce operating costs and provide a central unit for the integration and operation of satellite terminal hardware. Combining both optimal performance and functionality, the lightweight modular satellite terminal provides access to the most advanced IP satellite services on the high-throughput GX network. The terminal supports both GX and military Ka-band frequency bands with a single configuration, making it interoperable with military satellite communications (MILSATCOM) systems and GX without any hardware changes.

Ulf Sandberg, Managing Director, Paradigm, said: “At Paradigm, we work closely with our customers so that we understand the challenges and complexities they face when using satcom in the field. This knowledge has led us to the design of HORNET 100GX, utilizing our high levels of engineering excellence to produce a state-of-the-art solution which, together with the Global Xpress network, really makes a difference for government users in theatre.”

The HORNET 100GX is a lightweight, rugged and quick to deploy and stow terminal that does not require tools or special training, and non-skilled users can point this PIM-powered terminal in seconds. The terminal’s interchangeable design is simple and robust for fast operation in demanding environments. The segmented carbon-fibre antenna provides maximum efficiency and optimum radiation characteristics for improved data throughput and availability.

Matt Wissler, Chief Technology Officer, Inmarsat Government, said: “We are excited to expand our wide range of Inmarsat type-approved, easy-to-use Ka-band terminals with the HORNET 100GX solution. Our partnership with Paradigm enables us to offer portable, easy to use, always-available data, voice and video communications wherever our customers’ missions demand.”
