Shure has introduced VHF versions of the ULX-D and QLX-D digital wireless microphone systems. These made their first appearance at last month’s 2016 NAB Show in Las Vegas, along with a preview of the latest release of the Wireless Workbench System control software. Among other announcements from Shure are that selected Yamaha consoles are able to control and monitor the ULXD4D and ULXD4Q digital wireless receivers.
Intercom and networking specialist Riedel Communications launched a new expander unit for its established Smartpanel at the 2016 NAB Show. The ESP-2324 adds more keys to the RSP-2318, plus four high-resolution touch-screens. The company, which is well-known in its European home market as well as the US, is now pushing into Southeast Asia through a partnership with Vietnam-based distributor Vietcoms, with broadcast a particular target sector.

At the 2016 NAB Show, Calrec Audio unveiled RP1, a remote production engine that directly addresses an increasingly prevalent requirement for high-quality content from remote locations. Remote production offers the ability to capture a broader range of live events, such as sports, news, or regional music festivals. Broadcasters cannot always justify the time or expense of sending a dedicated outside broadcast truck and a team of skilled on-site operators for these niche events, but they must always ensure that the same high broadcast standards are met.
The use of digital single lenses reflex and GoPro cameras in professional broadcast has led many microphone manufacturers to produce mics designed specifically to work with this new breed of acquisition tool. Sennheiser showed its latest products in these areas at the 2016 NAB Show, with a new stereo unit for DSLRs plus a prototype ‘action mic’.
