Zoom has announced the LiveTrak L-12, a portable live audio board that can mix, record, monitor, playback and remix sound. It is suitable for a wide range of applications — from podcasts to live mixing and recording of music groups.
With the digital L-12, Zoom said live recordings can be made with up to 12 discrete channels with five individual headphone mixes. It has a three-band mid-parametric EQ, 16 built-in send effects and 12 segment LED metering. Eight of the mixer’s mono channels also have a dedicated compressor.
The L-12 is highly portable. It weighs 5.58 pounds and is 17.5 inches long, 11.1 inches deep and 2.78 inches high. It uses an outboard power supply, which was not specified.
The 12 tracks each record 24-bit/96 kHz WAV audio to an SD card. Recording can be done while simultaneously mixing a live show. Users can mix and overdub finished projects on the device or transfer the discrete tracks to a DAW for further mixing and editing.
LiveTrak’s backlit LCD screen and encoder knob allow users to access an intuitive menu system to create new projects, recall previous projects and customize recorder settings. The L-12 offers 16 built-in effects with adjustable parameters. Choose from delay and reverb effects, then apply them to any channel.
Save up to nine different scenes and recall custom settings automatically. Each scene saves fader position, EQ settings, pan and mute. The “Fader Mode” buttons allow users to design custom mixes for both the master and monitor outputs. A built-in slate mic is included for talk-back.
LiveTrak is a 14-in/4-out USB audio interface with flexible routing options, offering unlimited possibilities. It is class compliant mode, which enables connection with iOS devices using an optional Lightning cable.
At -128 dBu EIN with +60 dB maximum input gain, LiveTrak is equipped with the quietest and most advanced preamps Zoom has ever made. The L-12 supports sample rates up to 96 kHz when recording to an SD card. In audio interface mode, it can record up to 48 kHz to a computer and an SD card simultaneously.
Record automatically by adjusting the L-12’s customizable audio input commands. Set it to start when the master fader detects a certain dB level. Audio data can be captured up to two seconds before recording starts, in case a performance begins ahead of time.
The Zoom LiveTrak L-12 will be available in September at $599.99.
