Lawo Smoothes Broadcast IP Transition With New Audio-to-IP Interface

While everyone agrees we’ll get there soon, many industry professionals have come to understand that the migration from baseband video to the Internet protocol (IP) world will take some time.

Technology vendors understand this and have taken steps to develop “bridge” products to serve broadcasters for the immediate future. At the NAB Show an audio console maker based in Germany named Lawo showed a new family of high-quality Audio-to-IP interfaces, called the “A__line,” that are designed to help broadcasters make the transition smoothly. All A__line products are used to transport analog and digital audio signals via IP network environments over long distances.

The company showed one of the first modules in the new series, the Lawo A__mic8, which combines eight Lawo-grade Mic/Line Inputs, four Line Outputs, eight GPIOs and two RAVENNA/AES67 Ethernet ports, all into a compact 19” 1RU housing. The new A__mic8 features Lawo mic pre-amps, which, according to the company, provide ultra-low distortion and noise with superior audio performance; in addition to the capability to be remotely controlled via an IP-network connection.

All Lawo A__line products are designed to provide easy and reliable solutions for intuitively transporting analog and digital audio signals via IP network environments. Based on RAVENNA technology, they are also compatible with the AES67 audio-over-IP interoperability standard and include the company’s new VisCon__Navigator, a software application for easy set-up of audio and video streams in IP networks.
