Mobile Viewpoint, a Netherlands based provider of live streaming technology for broadcasters, remote TV production companies and emergency first responders, has launched its Agile AirLink Ultra 5G mobile encoder.
The company described this as its most powerful video transmitter so far, a compact 12G SDI 5G mobile encoder capable of delivering UHD video at 50/60 frames per second, although not yet the 100/120 fps rate specified in phase B of the Ultra HD Forum’s specifications. The product can support a mix of 3G, 4G and now up to four 5G SIMs can be bonded to deliver the high bandwidth, low latency and reliability required for transmitting UHD video from the field.
The Ultra 5G encoder also supports a WiFi hotspot, 8 channel audio, true video return and an Ethernet SIM enabled IP data router via dual ethernet connectors. The Ultra 5G can be used from both a backpack and a camera mount set up.
“The broadcast world is constantly evolving with the continual advance of new higher definition video formats, IP workflows, and now 5G which is seen as a real enabler for remote production and 4K UHD workflows,” said Michel Bais, Managing Director at Mobile Viewpoint. “As a technology company we are constantly evolving to meet these challenges and introduce new concepts such as a single encoder supporting multiple cameras, support of 4K, 16 channels of audio, synching of cameras and a return video, all of which is better supported with 5G.”
The Agile AirLink Ultra 5G is aimed at providers of security services via remote surveillance cameras, as well as broadcasters and content producers. In the case of security, video would be fed back to a control room rather than a broadcast studio, but technically would operate in a similar way. Overseen by the LinkMatrix portal, the Mobile Viewpoint online service platform for remote management, the Ultra 5G encoder can provide live streaming for news, sports, and other outside live events from a remote location, as well as from security cameras.
Whatever the use case, there is a choice of a cloud decoder for web streaming, or an onsite decoder back at the broadcast center or control room, providing a true point-to-point transmission without the need for a cloud subscription based platform. The receiving decoder can present live steaming via 12G SDI outputs, IP outputs or as a file-based workflow as required.
