ChyronHego gets a new CEO and a Fresh Attitude Toward their Graphics Workflow.
I had the great good fortune on the floor of IBC 2019 to speak with not only the exiting CEO of ChyronHego, Marco Lopez, but also the incoming CEO, Ariel Garcia.
Amid the hubbub of the busy ChyronHego exhibit, Garcia began by telling me that one of their biggest introductions this year in Amsterdam was an Artificial Intelligence (AI) product called Fresh.
“What gives us the advantage is that we have tied Fresh into the whole ChyronHego IP workflow,” he told me. “That lets us bring AI to all our graphics products. For example, the new CAMIO 4.7, our asset management system, now offers enhanced support for playout of our universal graphics platform, PRIME graphics.”
CAMIO 4.7 provides a template-based workflow broadcast, weather and sports graphics as well as social media.
Actually, the CAMIO user interface now benefits from new PRIME features such as XMP, autofill, layers, and GTC movies, and the CAMIO Rundown can now enable PRIME Graphics scene playout on screens of any shape and size.
One of the ChyronHego products I have been tracking with great interest is their Paint telestrator.
Now in version 8.1, Garcia explained that you can now load Paint with different profiles for specific uses.
“You can create a profile for the coach, and then a different one for an analyst, and another for on-screen talent,” he explained. “These can all be updated and conformed in real time as needed.”
What has intrigued me about the developments in Paint is that it is not necessarily limited to paralleling the main broadcast feed.
For example, if there are replays that don’t fit into the prime program material, they could potentially be sent to Paint and streamed to the home viewer's mobile screen over social networks.
Virtual Placement 7.3 can tailor the ad banners circling the field for different markets in different languages.
This could become a pathway toward making what was just a telestrator into a source of distinct 2nd screen entertainment by itself. It’s something worth watching as the technology evolves.
For on-the-field graphics, ChyronHego's Virtual Placement is now stepping up to version 7.3 with automatic processes that let it function devoid of the need for a specialist operator, expensive camera sensors, or lengthy calibration.
An automatic chroma keyer in Virtual Placement 7.3 is ideal for live, field-based sports that completely removes the need for rekeying. In addition, an innovative, built-in Red Zone feature enables users to drive more in-game advertising for enhanced revenue generation.
Being able to demarcate the 2 point conversion line will be a new feature in the Virtual 1st graphics.
For the U.S. market, the "down and distance" application of Virtual Placement dubbed Virtual 1st, designed for what Yanks call gridiron "football", features add-ons in the user experience such as a two-point conversion line.
Who knows? Now that they have a dedicated graphic for it, maybe NFL football teams will start going for the 2 point conversion more often.
