Storage Made Easy (SME) has launched an upgrade of its Enterprise File Fabric package in time for demonstration at IBC 2019 in Amsterdam.
This includes a new version of SME’s media management tool with enhanced search incorporating AI and machine learning techniques from Google Vision initially, to be followed later by Amazon Rekognition and IBM Watson. There is automatic video classification featuring celebrity identification as well as image and subject analysis.
The firm claims that synchronization has been speeded up by 250 times, with content indexing also significantly faster, making it easier to work with extremely large data sets. A new Microsoft OneDrive connector unifies the original OneDrive (Free) and OneDrive for Business providers, with support for uploading very large files.
The firm has also simplified governance and compliance with a new Shared Team Folder Permission Reporting page. Auditors can see and export, for each or all users, explicit and inherited permissions for each folder. Customers can then use the File Fabric for security, encryption and control with a focus on compliance regimes such as GDPR, HIPAA, FERPA and GBLA. The governance tools also incorporate protection against various security threats, such as ransomware attacks. They also allow usage quotas for files to be set to help manage storage capacity and contain costs.
James Norman, Engineering Manager of SME, said: “This release delivers a significant step-up in performance, reliability and functionality for our customers and end-users. The raft of new features deliver value to use-cases focusing around big-data, digital media asset management, compliance and cybersecurity.”
Enterprise File Fabric is a multi-cloud data management and data protection product designed to unify on-premises and on-cloud company storage assets, in addition to standalone products that bridge desktop and cloud. Existing site-based storage infrastructures can be transformed into an on-premises private cloud, delivering a storage-as-a-service (SaaS) model to the company. Local storage can be connected to public clouds, managed by the File Fabric as a unified hybrid cloud storage platform.
The firm describes File Fabric as a "blanket" that companies can privately apply to wrap around all their data: on-premises, within a public cloud, or on a third-party software vendors' cloud such as SharePoint or Salesforce.
