AVT Audio Video Technologies is a Nurenberg-based manufacturer of audio transmission products for both contribution and distribution.
The company was founded in October 1996 and took over the audio and video products manufactured by LucentTechnologies Nuernberg, formerly PKI (Philips Kommunikations Industrie). Since then AVT has replaced the original product lines and expanded its portfolio. This now includes audio codecs, telephone hybrids/talkshow systems, a 5.1 to stereo downmixer and DAB/DAB+ systems. These are developed by AVT's own engineering team and are updated to incorporate the latest technical innovations, including audio coding algorithms supplied by leading German research houses IRT (Institut für Rundfunktechnik) and Fraunhofer Gesellschaft. The products are manufactured under contract by a number of German companies working to ISO 9001. AVT's range of MAGIC hardware audio codecs variously enable connection over POTS (plain old telephone lines), ISDN, Ethernet, 2-Mbit/s, X.21, G.722, IP and V.35 lines.
The MAGIC family also includes a studio to transmitter contribution system, which is able to transmit ten or more stereo signals, plus data for RDS (radio data system) services. The telephone hybrid/talkshow system range is designed to bring incoming and outgoing calls into the broadcast studio environment, with different models for POTS, ISDN and voice over IP.
On the radio transmission side AVT produces audio encoders for both DAB and its enhanced version, DAB+. Associated with these are ensemble multiplexers to get several services into one frequency, monitoring systems, switchers and converters, plus a DAB/FM receiver.
