Lightcraft Technology

Lightcraft Technology was founded in 2004 by Eliot Mack to bridge the technology and on-set production worlds. A graduate of MIT, Eliot has worked at Walt Disney Imagineering and iRobot. In 2004, Eliot followed his interests in visual effects and motion tracking and founded Lightcraft Technology, applying robotic techniques to the motion picture industry to create what would become the Previzion virtual studio system. Developed with co-founder and software architect Phil Mass, Previzion is a real time special effects system that provides a combination of high precision camera tracking, sophisticated rendering, and VFX quality keying that makes it the ideal solution for use in on-set compositing of virtual backgrounds and CGI characters.

Previzion is an award winning real-time VFX and camera tracking software that, in combination with Lightcraft Technology sensors, can take in live camera images, and key, color and composite CG elements in real time.

In other words, it’s an entire visual effects pipeline in a single system. Previzion can be implemented in existing VFX pipelines as the hub that brings post-production capabilities to set.

Previzion integrates technology for real-time keying, tracking, rendering, compositing, color correction, and motion capture, with realistic focus and depth of field effects. It can be used for static, dolly, jib arm, and even handheld shots.

More importantly — it just works. Multiple years of development have come together to enable working in a hybrid live action/CG environment to be just as intuitive as a live action shoot. Use the same cranes, jibs, and handheld shots that you’re used to. The difference is that the sets fit on a thumb drive.

Previzion fuses all of these disciplines into a seamless whole, enabling all of the benefits of virtual production — without requiring years of integration effort.
