Adobe has announced a raft of updates to the Creative Cloud products at the MAX creative conference. Some are new features, some are performance improvements. At IBC 2017 the video products saw a number of enhancements, especially for professionals who work in teams. Premiere started out as a single user application, but over the last few years Adobe have worked to enhance the product for enterprise users. Team Projects added support for smaller groups of users and this year has seen numerous addition to make the video products suited to collaborative projects like motion pictures and episodic productions.
The Premiere Pro video editor gains several additions for editing teams working one large productions. One big improvements is the support of multiple open projects. Editors can switch between scenes or episodes, editing and copying between projects. Users of the Team Projects application now lock bins and provide read-only access to other editors in collaborative projects, something that has been available from another vendor for many years.
Status badges alert when edits are made by team members even before changes are shared. Periodic reminders to share changes keep all the team members up to date. And shared versions are now easier to access. Team Projects now offers smoother workflows hosted in Creative Cloud and the ability to more easily manage versions with auto-save history.
Numerous improvements have been made to speed the creation of motion graphics with responsive design and integration with Adobe Stock.
There is a new toolset for VR in Premiere and After Effects. Editors can review VR content while they are editing using regular VR headsets. New VR effects and transitions have been added. The tools also add support for immersive audio with export of ambisonic audio for platforms like YouTube.
After Effect users can now program data-driven graphics from JSON files. Charts and graphs can be animated with imported data. After Effects also gains new font menus with live font review and support for ligatures. There is an across-the-board performance increase with GPU acceleration of layer transformations and motion blur.
Character Animator 1.0
The Character Animator, which has been in beta for some time is now a standalone version 1.0 product, packaged as part of CC. Character Animator sees many improvements in the formal release, with changes to core and custom animation functions, such as pose-to-pose blending, new physics behaviors and visual puppet controls. Adobe’s AI application, Sensei helps improve lip-sync capability by accurately matching mouth shape with spoken sounds.
Finally, Audition see a speed bump, up to 400% faster in the new release. Session organization is now more flexible with multi-take workflows and continuous playback while editing. Sensei is deployed for auto-ducking in the Essential Sound panel.
At the Adobe MAX conference Adobe announced upgrades to many more of the Creative Cloud suite including Photoshop, which gains a new Learn Panel with integral tutorials and tool tips for the beginner or occasional user. Photoshop has always been a bit daunting to the novice, and these additions aim to speed the learning curve,
For the experienced user, there are many improvements, brushes have been updated along with paint improvements. Selection and masking sees more accurate selections. Photoshop can now open and edit 360 degree spherical panoramic images. There are also general performance tweaks across several areas of the product including file open time, blending, compositing and to render times of the filters.
For the photographer, Lightroom sees a complete revamp, with a new user interface and new pricing plans. Power users can remain with the familiar interface with the renamed “Lightroom Classic”.
