LQ Firmware Brings Greater Functionality to Clear-Com Systems

Intercom developer Clear-Com has updated its range of IP interfaces, which will be presented at this year’s IBC in Amsterdam. The LQ Series is now able to connect to both telephony and conventional comms systems, while also providing greater channel handling for Clear-Com’s HelixNet digital party line system.

Clear-Com has produced new firmware for the LQ Series hardware that adds SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) connectivity to an intercom installation. SIP is a communications protocol for signalling and controlling multimedia communication sessions. It is predominately used for voice and video conferencing calls and is increasingly being integrated into professional broadcast intercom situations. The LQ Series is now able to allow Clear-Com systems - and other brands - to dial direct telephony calls.

The update additionally brings the ability to connect any two-wire party line or four-wire digital intercom using an IP network. This is done using Clear-Com's Agent-IC, which connects a full duplex system to those using intercom mobile apps on smart devices. This activity is managed through the browser-based Core Configuration Manager (CCM).

The LQ can also be used to increase the capacity of the HelixNet digital party line for networking applications. The new firmware is claimed to increase the number of audio ports six-fold, bring the total available to 24. Feeds from remote units can be carried over IP to designated HelixNet end-points, while the main system can be linked directly to Eclipse HX digital matrix intercoms using LQ.
