Delay for PlayBox’s AirBox Neo Playout at IBC 2017

PlayBox Technology will expand the range of features for its AirBox Neo playout systems at IBC 2017 with the launch of an IP-based delay server. The Neo TS Time Delay is a 1U device that can be used for single and multichannel operations, offering both time zone shift and disaster recovery functionality.

The new PlayBox Technology Neo TS Time Delay is intended to be completely automated and introduce delayed triggering of signals into a variety of IP-based video and audio carrier streams, including DVB, ATSC and MPEG. The system is able to work with multiple input channels and multiple delayed outputs, with all operational configurations set up and controlled using an integrated web-based interface.

Among the parameters available are channel-specific delays, which can be programmed in 15-second steps.  Input bit-rates and available storage will dictate how much delay can be introduced, while other features include automatic error logging and displays showing data about MPEG-compliant transport streams.

The Neo TS Time Delay includes UDP-RTP input and output, which enables unicasting or multicasting through conventional Gigabit Ethernet connections. Among the possible setting permutations is to have a 'zero-delay, pass-through' to cover the domestic time zone of a broadcaster, while a one hour or one week delay can be introduced on a unicast MPEG stream. A single device can additionally handle a multicast MPEG stream with specific playout timings, with a third channel for supporting information such as UDP (User Data Protocol).

Commenting on the new product, PlayBox Technology president Don Ash said, "Neo TS Time Delay is for use in countries or federations with multiple time zones. It also has applications in disaster recovery centres where it provides operators with a wide range of timing options."

Neo TS Time Delay will be shown at IBC 2017 as part of a full channel branding, scheduling and playout installation based on the AirBox Neo platform.
