Globecast To Demonstrate Peer-Assisted Media Delivery Platform

Globecast satellite services will debut its Optim’Net, Content Distribution Network (CDN) cost optimization technology at the 2017 NAB Show.

The company said that while the price-per-GB is regularly decreasing, CDN costs for media delivery are growing every year as audiences and the demand for content increase as well. In addition, viewers are watching online content for longer periods of time than ever before.

This, coupled with the demand for media quality shifting from very compressed video to SD and to HD, which increases CDN traffic, has led Globecast to develop Optim’Net, a peer-assisted media delivery platform that helps optimize costs related to content delivery. This CDN off-loading service, which integrates seamlessly with any CDN vendor, relies on the audience watching the content to participate in the delivery to other viewers. Extra benefits include improved network performance and better user experience, especially a reduced start time for media playback.

Globecast will also exhibit information on its new Disaster Recovery Playout Services, which originate from the company’s Culver City Media Center in Los Angeles, Calif. For broadcasters, networks and studios requiring geographic proximity to Southern California or requiring access to the important LA market, Globecast provides infrastructure, personnel and expertise to manage low-cost disaster recovery feeds for primary networks. It also provides cost-effective new service launches to minimize risk and capital investment.

Following the launch of Globecast VOD Logistics last year, the company has continued to increase its platform delivery reach, with the volume of content distributed doubling last year. Globecast VOD Logistics assembles and delivers VOD content packages with all the relevant metadata, languages, graphics, subtitles and promos in the technical formats demanded by VOD platforms globally.

Also on the exhibit booth will be Globecast’s Media Factory, which leverages the company’s expertise in handling both linear and on-demand services through playout and over-the-top solutions. Globecast OTT services can take content from anywhere in the world, process it in any way required, and then deliver it anywhere to any device.

Globecast will also be discussing its Content Localization and Monetization solutions that facilitate the monetization of content on every screen. The company offers a suite of services to help broadcasters achieve this objective.
