NTT Launches 4K Encoder for Sports
The HC11000 Series.
A 4K HEVC encoder and decoder designed for use during sports event coverage has been launched by Japan’s NTT Electronics.
The HC11000 Series is a 4:2:2 10-bit HEVC (H.265) real-time encoder that NTT says “has the capability to transmit high-quality video images in low bitrate, low latency with low power consumption”.
Capable of working in SD, HD and 4K 50p, it is available in two versions: the 1RU Full (HC11000) and the Half Rack (HC10000).
NTT has also showcased the fruits of its R&D work, including a real-time 8K HEVC encoder that is suitable for online transmission, broadcasting and distribution and an immersive telepresence system called Kirari.
The latter is described as a “next generation live viewing service that delivers the entire event atmosphere to the world”.
The NTT is also working with technology from NTT DATA Italia and NTT-IT. Specifically, Hyper is described as an advanced software application for automating the batch transcoding of videos for OTT VoD services, and Gaia, an SDI enhancement video filter.
Gaia uses ‘psycho-visual’ techniques to apply a pre-distortion to an SDI stream in order to obtain a better subjective image following AVC or HEVC compression. NTT IT showcased the ViaPlatz Stream Monitor, a device for checking the status of, and spotting problems in, IP video transmissions.
