Haivision Launches SRT Hub Software Development Kit

Haivision, best known as co-founder with Wowza Media Systems of the SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) Alliance for low latency streaming, has announced availability of the SRT Hub Software Development Kit (SDK) in time for demonstration at IBC 2019.

The company has also unveiled its associated SRT Hub Partner Program to support third party vendor integration with the SRT Hub SDK, providing a framework to develop input, output, and processing modules. Called Hublets, these modules can enable the SRT Hub to integrate with products from other vendors. At IBC 2019 such integrations will be demonstrated with AvidCinegy, LightFlow, MicrosoftTelestream and Wowza Media Systems, as well as Haivision’s own streaming products.

“With Haivision SRT Hub, we’re creating an ecosystem that gives broadcasters a highly reliable, ultra-low latency cloud-based workflow to send their content throughout their connected broadcast systems,” claimed Peter Maag, CMO, Haivision. “We’re bringing some of the leading systems together to make these workflows more efficient and we’re looking forward to developing new broadcast workflows for the future.”

The new hub was welcomed by Bob De Haven, General Manager, Worldwide Media & Communications at Microsoft Corp. “With SRT Hub on Microsoft Azure, Haivision is helping bring together an open ecosystem of partners so customers can more easily build world-class media contribution, live routing, and delivery workflows.”

Then Avid is showing a technical preview featuring the Haivision SRT Hub to demonstrate how broadcasters can harness low latency cloud-based and on-premise workflows for injecting their content into the Avid MediaCentral from anywhere in the world in principle, according to Raymond Thompson, Director of Product Marketing for Avid.

On the Wowza front, a hublet will be demonstrated integrating that company’s streaming products with the SRT Hub. There is also a hublet connecting LightFlow’s ABR (Adaptive Bitrate Streaming) into the SRT Hub. This can exploit so called multi-codec dynamic ABR ladders designed to make use of different bit rates and resolutions to suit varying network conditions and client devices. “Additionally, publishers can now benefit from a multi-CDN strategy based on advanced business rules and real-time QoE analytics,” said Miguel Serrano, CEO at LightFlow, an Epic Labs company.

The SRT SDK is designed for low latency media routing based on the Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure, to connect edge devices and systems with cloud resources irrespective of geographic location.
