Digital Anarchy Brings Old Favorites and New Transcription to NAB 2019

This year, Digital Anarchy brought three stalwart software favorites to the NAB Show 2019, and also a new introduction—each designed to make crafting product in post easier.

Digital Anarchy is celebrating 17 years of producing digital effects and software plug-ins,” Serena Chang, vp of strategy, business development at Digital Anarchy, began our interview in the bustling South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, “and we just love the community of videographers, colorists, and post-production specialists we meet at NAB each year.”

This time around, Chang said they have three major existing products they want to present to that fellowship, all designed to work with Adobe After Effects and Premiere, Apple Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, and Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve.

“The first is Beauty Box,” she began, “which is a digital skin re-touching VFX plug-in that makes all of us look a little bit better in post.”

They have a very illustrative YouTube video that demonstrates the charm of Beauty Box.

You’ll get the full impact if you can view this video in full screen.

“We are also presenting an update 2.0 to our Flicker Free plug-in,” she told me, “which helps deal with disruptions from things like stadium lights and other interferences that cause flicker in your video.”

This update, Flicker Free 2, is GPU accelerated to take advantage of more modern computer platform architectures.

The third product Chang wanted to highlight is called Samurai Sharpen which lets you focus the look of your video, even if you want to apply this effect to only a designated part of your image.

But what Digital Anarchy had for the first time on the floor of NAB was a new suite of software called Transcriptive, a set of automated, AI-empowered transcription plug-ins for Adobe Premiere Pro editors.

As you will see in this tutorial video, Transcriptive is an extensions panel that works inside of Premiere to transcribe the audio track and assign SMPTE timecode to each word. In case AI missed a word, the text panel can be subsequently edited, or the words can be searched by timecode back to their source, and exported as a captions subtitle format.

In this result of a Transcriptive "transcription", can you find how many times the AI was not confused between "know" (understand) and "no" (negatory)?

Then there is Transcriptions Power Search, which works kind of like Google for Premiere. With this Power Search function you can search through everything in your project-bins, trims, out takes, etc.—whether they have been previously transcribed or not.

Finally, Transcription.com is a standalone app that is still in Beta, but you can create an account and try it for free at https://app.Transcriptive.com.

With Transcription.com you can send a transcript or video file from Premier for a producer, client or assistant to make a paper cut. Once edited, that transcript file can be sent back to the Premier editor to continue working in Transcriptive or Power Search.

Digital Anarchy is continuing its heritage of producing product that makes us editors, and the videos we craft, simply look better.
