Quantum Launches New NVMe Flash Platform To Streamline Workflows

At the 2019 NAB Show, Quantum Corp. will unveil a new flash-based storage appliance designed to streamline and improve media workflows. It’s based on Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) technology, which is an open logical device interface specification for accessing non-volatile storage media attached via a PCI Express (PCIe) bus.

TheQuantum NVMe all-flash appliances combine 100 percent NVMe storage media with a new software defined block storage architecture and StorNext (the company’s high performance shared storage system), which delivers ultra high-performance storage capabilities for demanding media production and distribution environments.

The company said that as its customers deal with more and more UHD content, emerging storage technologies like NVMe are intended to help customers dramatically improve performance while simplifying their infrastructure. Quantum’s new NVMe-based Xcellis storage offers 22 GB/s single-client and uncached streaming bandwidth, enabling real-time editing of multiple 8K streams.

Quantum’s NAB booth will also feature a range of interactive demonstrations of new and enhanced solutions encompassing removable storage for on-set production. This includes NVMe for high performance ingest and edit, as well as color correction and finishing of UHD content, cloud-based solutions for low-cost long-term preservation, the latest StorNext features, and hyperconverged storage for surveillance recording.

The company also announced the availability of StorNext 6.2, which includes the latest generation Quantum Xcellis appliances, making it ideally suited to ingest, edit, share and preserve media content. The platform improves performance for high-resolution video while enhancing integration with cloud-based workflows and global collaborative environments. With StorNext 6.2 Quantum offers an S3 interface to its Xcellis appliances, enabling them to serve as targets for applications designed to write to RESTful interfaces. In addition, enhanced FlexSync replication capabilities enable users to create local or remote replicas of multi-tier file system content and metadata, offering more flexibility to protect a single directory or an entire file system.

The new Xcellis models offer the latest 100 Gb Ethernet and 32 Gb Fibre Channel connectivity options, enabling customers to utilize the latest generation networking infrastructure between their clients and storage arrays, thereby accelerating workflows and improving productivity. Combined with StorNext’s coordinated file accessibility over NAS, SAN, and DLC architectures, the new Xcellis platform offers architectural flexibility and increased capacity.
