Rohde & Schwarz recently announced that the global association for TV broadcasters ENEX has chosen the R&S RelayCaster IP contribution solution for its new global contribution and distribution network. The network wanted the most reliable contribution and distribution of live content over unmanaged IP networks as possible. System integrator EuroMedia Services helped integrate the solution.
Searching for an alternative to satellites as an exchange platform for live content, ENEX had specific requirements for the new equipment. First, the many master control rooms of partners worldwide must be connected as best as possible using the current infrastructure. High stability and reliability with low latency must be achieved while keeping the investment as low as possible.
R&S RelayCaster encodes live from SDI or HDMI sources to MPEG-2 or AVC/H.264 with adaptive bitrate selection for optimal bandwidth allocation. It achieves high transmission reliability by reducing packet losses to a minimum, providing the necessary quality of service (QoS) conditions for uninterrupted transmission.
RelayCaster enables low-delay IP contribution and distribution in unmanaged IP networks, even over long-distance Internet links. It supports standardized MPEG-TS (SPTS and MPTS) with all common audio/video codecs as input and output.
Optional encryption based on the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) provides end-to-end protection of the transmitted data streams. The only challenge was to link the typical broadcast environment to the IP world. This meant bridging both worlds to acquire the necessary competence and to meet and adapt various security challenges.
