Nagra Zooms in on Home and IoT Through Cloud at CES 2019

NAGRA, Kudelski Group’s digital TV division, is promoting its cloud-based and “as-a-service” strategies for pay TV service providers and content owners at CES 2019.

Under this umbrella it will drill down into five core themes: end-to-end content value protection, content monetization for OTT, smart home security, analytics, smart home security and Internet of Things (IoT) security.

For content value protection the theme is to embrace the whole video cycle from origin to consumption featuring NAGRA’s new cloud-based Security Service Platform called cloud SSP. This is described as a multi-tenant package that scales and delivers the latest security technologies “as-a-service” to pay TV operators. It incorporates NAGRA’s approach to Android TV security including cloud-based direct-to-TV security with TVkey Cloud, supported by its TVkey 2.0. It also includes developments to defeat piracy through active security with anti-piracy services and forensic watermarking.

For active content monetization for the OTT era, NAGRA is touting its OpenTV Suite with features to improve customer experience and engagement. Then on the analytics front, it is showing NAGRA Insight, which it calls an AI-driven, pay TV data analytics platform that helps service providers personalize the service to individual users by analyzing their preferences and behaviors more closely, as well as enabling targeted advertising.

For smart home security, NAGRA has HomeScout, a cloud-based service that monitors devices and IP traffic over the home network to ensure ongoing privacy and safety, with smart parental controls. NAGRA claims that by allowing service providers to gain better insight into the home network it can reduce the number of service calls, as well as lowering churn by addressing issues more promptly.

Then on the IoT security front, NAGRA is featuring Kudelski Group’s IoT Security Platform designed to protect the whole end-to-end product lifecycle. Aimed both at device makers and service providers, this supports access management via APIs, with Kudelski IoT demonstrating a cellular-connected smart camera as an example of the platform’s capabilities at CES 2019.
