IP Playout Interest Growing Reports PlayBox Technology USA

IP is increasingly becoming a serious technology platform for playout but older technologies continue to sustain in a market where operators are covering their options. PlayBox Technology USA used the recent NAB New York show to showcase its hybrid IP-SDI AirBox Neo channel-in-a- box system, together with the CloudAir playout and streaming platform.

PlayBox Technology describes AirBox Neo as transmission agnostic, allowing users to distribute programmes over all major networks, including terrestrial, satellite, cable and IP, in SD, HD, Ultra HD or all three at the same time. "The hybrid system gives station managers the freedom to start new programme channels at very short notice, whether for event-specific, red button streams or permanent additions to their multiplex," comments Van Duke, director of US operations for PlayBox USA.

CloudAir, as its name implies, was designed to deliver programmes from cloud-based storage. It is based on the concept of remote access and is aimed at new operations requiring quick set-up, as well as situations needing finite remote archive capacity. Duke adds that the system was also designed for SaaS (software as a service) media asset management, offering access and search functionality from any location.

Duke comments that many of those visiting PlayBox USA's stand at NAB NY were interested in both scalability and IP connectivity. "Most trade show activity revolves around production demonstrations and promotion," he says. "This event went beyond that and generated actual orders. We also had good meetings with potential new resellers, which will help establish and expand our new line of products and support networks across the entire USA."
