The LUM-310R 4K reference monitor was introduced last year, but it stole the show at this year’s TVLogic’s NAB 2018 exhibit.
TVLogic covered both the LCD and OLED bases for HDR monitors at NAB 2018. Yet the crowds really gathered to see last year’s star attraction, the LUM-310R’s “true HDR” reproduction.
“We are showing three High Dynamic Range (HDR) monitors this year, topped off by the 31-inch LUM-310R 4K (4096 X 2160) reference monitor.” Roy An, overseas sales team manager for TVLogic told me during our interview on the lower floor of the South Hall in the Las Vegas Convention Center. “We call it ‘true HDR’ because it offers 2,000 nits brightness with a simultaneous deep black minimum of 0.002 nits thanks to a local-dimming backlight array.”
An claimed that qualified the LUM-310R as the only monitor at the show whose brightness level satisfied the requirements of Hybrid-Log Gamma (HLG) HDR. The LUM-310R also supports other HDR standards such as SMPTE ST2084, ST2086 and is pending for ST2094.
As for color gamuts, you can view Rec.709, DCI-P3, and Rec.2020 on the LUM-310R’s display. Its signal I/O includes 3G/6G/12G-SDI input via one, two, or four SDI connections as well as HDMI (ver.2.0).
As you might expect, that comes with a hefty price well over $40K in US dollars. So for those who hesitate to commit to that high an investment while the HDR world is still searching for a universal spec, they also brought some ‘HDR emulated” monitors to the show.
These include the 31.1-inch LUM-313G 4K display with a maximum luminance of 350 nits, contrast ratio of 1500:1 and wide color gamut, and also the similarly 4K, 31.1-inch LUM-318G which boosts its luminance to 850 nits.
At a more cost-effective price range, the LUM-318G still lets you evaluate the quality of your HDR brightness.
Even though they cannot reproduce the eye-stunning brightness of true HDR’s peak luminance, the LUM-313G and LUM-318G can show you if your highlights are clipping or if there is detail in the blacks. And the point is these last two monitors come with a price tag around 1/3 of the LUM-310R.
Both of them come with 4 BNC connections (2×12G-SDI + 2×3G-SDI) and HDMI 2.0 interface, and support various video formats up to 4K/60p through single-link 12G-SDI, Quad 3G-SDI and HDMI 2.0.
They each feature waveform monitor and vectorscope, and provide the HDR emulation function with HDR EOTFs (Electro-Optical Transfer Functions) of PQ, HLG and SLog3.
The LEM-550R supports HDR standards such as SMPTE 2084PQ, Hybrid-Log Gamma (HLG), and others.
TVLogic also had some OLED screens on display, including the LEM-550R, a QC-Grade HDR monitor for broadcast and post production with a 55-inch OLED panel with UHD resolution of 3840 X 2160
And they expanded their LVM series of LCD field monitors with the 17-inch LVM-171S (1920 X 1080) and the 24-inch LVM-241S (1920 X 1200). Both offer wide-gamut color reproduction up to DCI-P3.
