In today’s fast-pace media world, content often needs to be edited where the content is being produced. A workflow has been developed by Avid that supports an off-site, high-end post production workflow. All the editor needs is an adequate internet connection. The solution relies on PCoIP, a protocol developed by software developer Teradici, which is much faster than TCP. When combined with Microsoft Azure cloud and Avid’s MediaCentral | Cloud UX, the result can be an efficient, cloud-based edit suite.

Based in the heart of MediaCity UK in Salford, northwest England, is production house dock10. The facility is known for producing everything from popular TV shows and sports matches to cutting edge VFX-based commercials and corporate videos for leading brands.

This article looks at how the production house uses cloud-based remote-editing technology to produce live content. dock10 worked with the BBC to develop an efficient cloud-based workflow to support major event coverage. A key goal was to provide a full-featured edit suite but without the traditional cost of moving staff and equipment to remote locations.
