TVN Chooses Leader Instruments for UHD-HDR Tests

The technical quality of the control suite output from TVN’s first UHD-HDR OB truck is guided by Leader Instruments.
The Leader Instruments LV5490 is used in German High Dynamic Range (HDR) sports broadcast testing.
Hannover, Germany-based TVN MOBILE PRODUCTION has ordered five Leader Instruments LV5490 test instruments for use in its first UHD-HDR mobile production truck. TVN is one of Europe's largest outside broadcast fleet operators. Logic Media Solutions, Leader's Darmstadt-based channel partner, supported TVN during pre-purchase evaluation and will complete the delivery.
Testing the test gear
TVN production engineer Holger Tadge told the story: "We made an extensive evaluation of the available UHD test equipment. The LV5490 is intuitive to operate and the real-time false-color picture display is proving especially useful in ensuring we make the greatest possible use of the UHD-HDR headroom in content we deliver to our clients.
We confirmed the LV5490 purchase decision following highly successful UHD-HDR coverage of the February 19 Bundesliga football match between Borussia Mönchengladbach and RB Leipzig. A key part of this production was to produce content feeds in UHD-HDR and UHD-SDR. We developed and implemented an entirely new HDR/SDR workflow for our OB truck. The tests proved the value of UHD-HDR in delivering images with rich contrast under practically all the lighting conditions faced by our OB camera team.
The entire workflow of the hybrid HDR production was tested for the first time at the February 19 match and we have scheduled four more tests between now and the end of the current Bundesliga season. The experience gained will allow us to determine when UHD-HDR can be integrated into live production."

The half-rack-width 4U high Leader LV5490 offers 4K, UHD, 3G, HD and SD test and measurement features in a compact portable unit.
Waveform, vector, five-bar and picture display can all be viewed at the same time on the LV5490's 9 inch LCD monitor. The monitor is full 1920 x 1080 HD resolution with a wide viewing angle and high color reproduction.
A 1920 x 1080 HD DVI and HD-SDI rasterized output is also provided to feed a larger monitor. Simultaneous viewing of up to four SDI inputs is possible, including overlays. The size and location of individual channels can be adjusted on the display using a USB mouse so the user is not limited to fixed-size quadrants.
