Danmon Group Builds Scandinavia’s First UHD Channel

System integrator Danmon Systems Group has completed work for ViaSat Sport on Scandinavia’s first UHD television channel. Part of Modern Times Group, ViaSat is based at MTG’s headquarters in Stockholm. The new channel launched with coverage of the Summer Olympics, as MTG is the official Rio Olympics 2016 broadcaster for Sweden.

ViaSat Sport will use the channel to transmit select live sport events in UHD to viewers throughout the Nordic region. ViaSat Sport will also broadcast specially produced UHD sports content, such as soccer via the SES-5 satellite for ViaSat customers throughout Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

At the same time, Danmon built an additional HD Sports channel that is branded as ViaSat Sport Premium. In fact, Danmon completed the full build and equipment testing in just over a month, on time and on budget.

Both projects were coordinated through the local Danmon Sweden office and implemented by Danmon Systems. They included the design and building of three new rooms: UHD editing and control, voiceover and HD Sports control. There was also an extensive upgrade of ViaSat's existing DHD audio mixer and Imagine Communications Platinum video router, as well as a rebuild of the Pebble Beach Neptune automation system.

The Danmon Group's Systems Integration Division covers a wide spectrum of operations ranging from designing, installing and commissioning studios, playout centers, newsrooms and satellite systems to providing the complete infrastructure of television and radio stations for major broadcasters and service providers worldwide. The Systems Integration Division operates internationally from offices in Scandinavia, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
