Barnfind Extends Fiber Transport Platform at IBC 2016

Norway’s Barnfind Technologies will extend its fiber transport platform at IBC 2016 with new and enhanced products across its two core families, the BarnOne routing switches and BarnMini bridges, extenders and change over switches. The highlight at IBC will be the BarnOne Stage Box Break-out panel system, allowing front panels to be customized with different combinations of connectors. A selection of eight modules will serve as connection points to one or more BarnOne or BarnMini units.

Then on the BarnMini front, the company will be introducing a bridge between third-party devices, for example transferring an RS422 signal or tally between two locations, or controlling an external optical changeover switch. Called BarnMini-05, this is available as a standalone unit with a separate PSU (Power Supply Unit), or mounted into the BarnMini BTF-Mini-16 frame that houses any combination of 16 BarnMini modules powered by a common PSU.

The company is also unveiling a new optical changeover switch, the BarnMini-06, which it says is easier to integrate with the GPO (General Purpose Output) devices that are found in broadcast applications since it can now provide its own power needed to drive the switch. This new device is also slightly smaller, accommodated by the BarnMini BTF-Mini-16 frame instead of the larger BT-HOUS-LGX-1RU chassis.

Among other product launches at IBC, Barnfind is introducing a 4-channel CWDM multiplexer as part of the BarnMini range. The new unit was developed in response to requests for a module that could transport 4K over different media, again designed for the more compact BarnMini BTF-Mini-16 frame, saving on rack space and cost.
