Linear Acoustic Makes News at 2016 NAB Show
AERO.soft and other AERO processors were updated at the 2016 NAB Show.
Linear Acoustic announced numerous options and updates for many of its audio processing and compliance products, introduced some new products, and made several business announcements at the 2016 NAB Show.
Linear Acoustic updated and upgraded its AERO line of full-featured audio processors. New since the AERO.10 was first introduced at IBC 2015 is the option for a 2+2+2+2+2 configuration to support up to five simultaneous stereo programs.
AERO.10 is a full-featured audio processor supporting up to 10 channels of PCM audio via AES, SDI, or stereo analog I/O. It uses the same AEROMAX processing engine and the popular UPMAX II upmixing and downmixing algorithm as AERO.100 and AERO.2000.
AERO.10 supports ITU-R BS.1770-3 and EBU R128 loudness metering and logging including True Peak. The included TCP/IP remote application provides comprehensive control and display of all AERO.10 system settings and processing parameters, plus extensive metering of loudness from a PC located anywhere with a network connection.
The company announced similar updates for several other AERO Audio Processors including AERO.100, AERO.2000, and AERO.soft.
Each AERO.soft Processing Engine is capable of handling up to eight AMX processing Instances. Each Processing engine can have any combination of AMX5.1 (5.1 + 2 + 2) or AMX2.0 (2+2+2) or AMX5x2 (2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2) Instances. DolbyDigital, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby E decoding and encoding, and Nielsen encoding are optionally available.
The MT2000’s bright OLED displays channel signal levels and loudness, as well as status updates at a glance. A combination jog wheel and navigation joystick provides complete control.
Linear Acoustic also debuted the latest updates for its MT2000 Multichannel Bitstream Analyzer. The new MT2000 software dramatically simplifies use and improves signal display, as well as adding several new features.
The new software update offers a streamlined menu structure, automatic detection of input signal type, and now viewing of all 16 audio channels at once. The MT2000 can also analyze SMPTE 337 formatting, measure Dolby E guard band and line position, and display all the metadata contained in a Dolby encoded bitstream.
Supporting ATSC A/85 (CALM Act) and EBU R128 recommendations, it also includes comprehensive ITU-R BS.1770-1/2/3 loudness measurement capabilities with user selectable Dolby Dialog Intelligence.
Supporting the Rio Olympics
NBC Olympics, a division of the NBC Sports Group, selected Linear Acoustic to provide audio upmixing and technical support for its production of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 5 - August 21. The announcement was made by Karl Malone, Director, Sound Design, NBC Sports & Olympics and Tim Carroll, founder of Linear Acoustic and CTO of the Telos Alliance.
Over 40 Linear Acoustic UPMAX v4 units, along with remote controls, have been delivered to NBC Olympics for their coverage of the Rio Games. Linear Acoustic is also providing MT2000 Multichannel Bitstream Analyzers and on-site technical support.
AIMS
Along with more than a dozen other AIMS member companies, Linear Acoustic participated in an interoperability demonstration that showcased seamless S2022/6 and AES67 connectivity in the Arista Networks exhibit. Linear Acoustic demonstrated how the AERO.soft audio and loudness management system utilizes AoIP connectivity to deliver compliant audio within an all IP system environment.
Linear Acoustic, Minnetonka Audio and Source Digital demonstrated their support for the nearly completed ATSC 3.0 standard at NAB 2016. As an extension to the Linear Acoustic / Minnetonka Booth, a dedicated demonstration of AoIP products from throughout the Telos Alliance group of companies demonstrated the realities of networked audio.
