Festival 4K Goes to Air with ATEME Encoder

The Dutch Brava Media group which launched Festival 4K in September and claimed it to be the first native 4K Ultra HD channel in the world, is doing so from the Netherlands play out provider Basmedia using ATEME encoders.

The new channel features festivals, concerts and theatre productions with programming ranging from pop, rock, jazz, dance, musicals, to modern circus, and opera.

Media entrepreneurs Jur Bron and Gerard Ardesch are behind the station, with companions Rob Overman and Robert Rutten of the Dutch Brava Group.

Bron and Ardesch earlier launched the music channels as Brava, DJazz.tv, TV Oranje and SchlagerTV. The station is currently offered with a programme in blocks of six hours. Next year, this will be extended to loops of twelve hours. From 2017 Festival 4K provides a unique 24-hour programming in Ultra HD.

ATEME's TITAN Live is a virtualized software-based encoder-transcoder, with support for HEVC, H264 and MPEG2.

“Basmedia is always searching for innovative partners to provide solutions for breakthrough channels like Festival 4K,” said Bas Ardesch. “The TITAN Live enables us to offer 4K-UHD services, using COTS servers, while delivering high video quality with high density for our customers.”

Emmanuel Boureau, VP Sales, ATEME said: “TITAN Live enabled Festival 4K to launch as the first 100% 4K-UHD native channel in France. Our future-proof solution has been smoothly deployed by various tier 1 broadcasters and service providers all around the world due to our global experience in UHD deployments, as well as seamless integration with TV Globo eco-system, from the CDN to mobile device players and set-top-boxes.”
