PlayBox Technology Offers Universal Playout and Streaming Platform

PlayBox Technology, with over 15,500 playout and branding channels in operation around the world, has developed a cloud-based playout platform called CloudAir that dramatically lowers the capital expenditure cost of running established and start-up television channels.

Available either on a standard licensing or SaaS (software-as-a-service) basis, CloudAir gives broadcasters and content owners the freedom to scale up or down as demand changes. It is designed for start-up ventures, established television channels and anyone who wants to deliver content, from a single event to a 24/7 television channel.

Don Ash, PlayBox Technology Managing Partner and Director, Sales, said that CloudAir is a unified workflow environment based on a set of software-centric modules. It will provide all the features PlayBox Technology customers already enjoy as well as flexibility in format handling and transcoding. The software development resources enable Playbox to support practically any standard—whether for terrestrial, satellite or online viewing, live, near-live or catch-up.

“CloudAir can be tailored to provide exactly the capabilities customers require for their current activities,” Ash said. “Our range of modules support ingest, source transcoding, quality control, media asset management, production, post-production, subtitling, scheduling, playout and transmission. In addition, CloudAir can be operated in fully automated mode with the option of making schedule alterations or live inserts at any time in response to late-breaking news.”

All CloudAir modules are controlled via a new unified interface that is easy to operate and can be accessed locally or remotely via a standard HTML web browser. Each element of the control interface provides the information an operator needs to process the task in hand, including the freedom to decide the order in which these processes are performed. Automated alerts warn if any element of a schedule requires additional attention before being transmitted.

PlayBox Technology will demonstrate CloudAir at its stand (8.B70) at the IBC Show.
