Envivio Trumpets its 100% Software Approach to Video Processing at IBC

Envivio, best known for its advocacy of software transcoding, demonstrated a range of offerings spanning different delivery platforms at IBC 2015. These included a new cloud DVR package combining various techniques such as software-defined storage, along with recent compression standards for packaging and transcoding on the fly.

The software supports start over, time shifting and network personal video recording to any screen from the cloud. Envivio also showed its approach to dynamic insertion, offering seamless and targeted ad replacement, combined with viewership analytics. It also demonstrated its Envivio Nuage, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) video solution for all screens supporting processes from content acquisition to the consumer.

Then for satellite providers Envivio showed a new, direct-to-home, all-software head-end. Supporting MPEG-2, H.264 or HEVC with enhanced statistical multiplexing, Envivio Muse and its new all-software Envivio Spark Multiplexer, Envivio says this has been selected by a major US satellite operator to move its operations to a private cloud with software-based processing to optimize costs. This will most likely be one of the two main US DTH operators, DirecTV or Dish Network, but the identity has yet to be confirmed.
