With Nix Engine, users can configure workflows, and any one workflow can do a multi-step combination of any or all of the available modules.
For the first time at IBC, TSL Products will show Phinix, a new suite of desktop and enterprise audio tools that enable engineers to measure, correct and adjust audio files on the fly.
Available as standalone desktop applications or as an integrated enterprise solution, TSL Products said the new suite of tools includes comprehensive loudness measurement, correction and compliance, Dolby-E encoding and decoding, options for track shuffling and up/down mixing, audio description mix and channel replacement and extraction.
A new module that will analyze the file structure will be available soon. Phinix file-based audio solutions support a wide range of professional media formats, including MXF, LXF, GXF, QT, WAV and AIFF.
At the core of the new suite of tools is the Nix Engine, a scalable audio server that can be used either for achieving medium to high levels of processing in an automated environment or for providing manual flexibility in large post production facilities.
Though the system is modular, complex workflows can be assembled by purchasing multiple modules. These complex workflows can be applied to media files using simple watch folders, or by integrating at API level into other tools. Nix Engine has optional access to all processing functions available within the desktop tools. Depending on license, functions are available individually, or can be ganged into complex sequences of operation.
Nix Engine can provide Dolby E encode and decode using Intel-based hardware. It can ensure loudness compliance to worldwide standards, including EBU R128 and ATSC A85. It also has track remap, track mute, track replace and stereo to 5.1 upmix.
Available as a standalone application Nix Loud is a software application that auto analyses, detects and normalizes audio loudness violations in file-based media. It complies with the latest standards, based on ITU-R BS.1770-3 and BS.1771, ATSC A-85, OP59, TRB-32 and EBU R128.
Nix Loud supports AIFF, WAV, MOV, and MXF files (OP1a and OP Atom), with either 16-bit and 24-bit uncompressed audio tracks or the Harris LXF format. It also supports MPG files with compressed MP2 audio tracks. It can read and write all types of media files that contain Dolby E encoded channels, plus extract PCM WAVs from Dolby material or create a Dolby E encoded wav from PCM material. It also supports the Panasonic P2 format, via an option.
Nix Loud can process “multifiles.” With multifiles, there are a number of mono files in wav, aiff or op-atom MXF format, with each mono file providing a portion of a stereo or 5.1 signal. Nix Loud opens all the relevant files, and combines them so as to calculate loudness values from the correctly weighted components. The software then works out what adjustment to apply to each file so that the combined fileset meet the targets, before creating a new set of compliant files.
