Sangli Deploys Synamedia Video Technology For Indian Expansion

Sangli Media Communication, the largest independent cable company in Sangli Maharastra, India, has deployed UK based Synamedia’s video technology to increase the number of channels it delivers to local cable operators, while reducing bandwidth.

It also improves video quality for 1.4 million subscribers, according to the operator.

Using Synamedia’s Converged Headend system, Sangli Media has added over 100 HD channels and upgraded 475 existing channels, as the company seeks to expand its reach to audiences beyond western Maharastra.

Going live with Converged Headend, underpinned by the Virtual Digital Content Manager (vDCM) featuring compression and statistical multiplexing, Sangli Media has been able to improve video quality and add channels without upgrading connectivity between local cable operators and the last mile. This reduces operational complexity, capital investment and minimizes risk, while accelerating time to market for new channels and services.

One important factor influencing Sangli Media’s decision was Synamedia’s flexible licensing model, which allows the company to upgrade to more efficient codecs when they become available, and to support the launch of new OTT services. Other key features include the ability to offer scroll on-screen display messaging - a regulatory requirement enabling character support for all local Indian languages – as well as automatic loudness control and high-capacity multiplex scrambling.

Synamedia VDCM includes encoding, transcoding, statistical multiplexing, scrambling, DRM, packaging and advertising capabilities in a single package. With a microservices based architecture, it supports private, public or hybrid cloud deployment. Sangli Media is also using Synamedia Video Services Manager (VSM) for provision and management of on-premise DCM instances.
