Grass Valley Gives Studio Berlin’s New OB Truck A Live Production Boost

A suite of Grass Valley live production technology has been selected by Studio Berlin, a German full-service provider for live television production solutions, to equip its new outside broadcast (OB) truck, U10.

Studio Berlin’s trucks capture and produce primetime content like the popular singing program The Voice of Germany, as well as premium sports content for the first and second League Bundesliga matches for SportCast and several political talk shows.

“Today’s media landscape is more dynamic and vibrant than ever, and audiences want experiences that are immersive and as good as being there. We need best-in-class technology and solutions that enable us to continually meet consumer demand,” said Matthias Alexandru, CTO, Studio Berlin. “We’re excited to bring our new truck to market filled with proven live production technology from Grass Valley which the Studio Berlin crew is familiar with operating and takes them to the next level of 4K productions without any compromises.”

Studio Berlin’s new UHD HDR 12G SDI truck, U10, will be equipped with Grass Valley’s K-Frame XP Compact Switcher with Karrera and Korona panels. K-Frame will provide more 4K M/Es, more 4K Keyers and more 4K DVEs enabling Studio Berlin to support the biggest 4K productions with its new truck. Studio Berlin also deployed 24 Grass Valley LDX 86N 4K cameras, providing users traditional native HD/3G acquisition, as well as native 4K UHD capture. The truck will be prepared to house Grass Valley’s new LDX 150 camera with triple-speed UHD/HDR SuperSlowMotion (SSM) support, ideal for live production sport environments.

The deployment also includes Grass Valley’s LiveTouch, replay and highlights system, which delivers unmatched multi-angle capabilities and opens up collaborative workflows via virtual shared storage. Using LiveTouch, operators can edit files while they are still being created – without the need for file transfers – saving valuable time.

This installation was designed, manufactured and completed by Grass Valley’s Amethyst SI partner, Broadcast Solutions GmbH.
