Nordic pay TV provider Allente has become one of the world’s first operators to complete Google Common Broadcast Stack integration on an Android TV Operator Tier set top box (STB).
Hybrid Kaon BCM72180 PVR STBs will be available in Q3 2021 to Allente’s subscribers numbering over 1 million, with Nagra Media CAS, Broadcom 72180 SoC and 3SS UX technology. Kaon STB middleware is fully integrated with the Android TV software stack to enable new pre-certified Android TV capabilities, such as custom over-the-air update, among others, further accelerating the introduction of new features.
Google created its standardized Common Broadcast Stack (CBS) to accelerate Android TV OS deployment worldwide. Announced in October 2020, CBS will enable more TV viewers to access the latest app-rich services. Such software designed for STBs and other TV devices enables playing and recording of digital TV broadcast signals. Objectives include easier and faster integration for hybrid Android TV OS devices, accelerated time-to-market, simplified upgrades and reduced overall total cost of ownership. Additionally, CBS is collectively optimized through Google’s wide-ranging tech partner network.
