HSC.TV Shoots Kansas City Chiefs Promo “A New Era” For ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown”

hsc.tv, a New York City-based production company, has shot a promotional piece entitled “A New Era” about the Kansas City Chiefs’ legacy that aired on ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” on Super Bowl Sunday.

According to hsc.tv partner and Sports Emmy award-winning cinematographer Bryan Brousseau, “Sunday NFL Countdown” producer Gavin Cote wanted to recreate two different eras of Kansas City Chief fans.

“The first scene we had to depict was 1970 Kansas City, with young fans celebrating the team’s Super Bowl IV victory; the second shows contemporary Chiefs’ fans reflecting on the 1970 victory as well as the current team’s success,” said Brousseau, who served as DP for the shoot.

“For the 1970 scene we did test shoots using Kodak 250D 16mm stock to assess the texture, grain and feel we wanted to recreate,” Brousseau recounted. “We had a tight turnaround for filming and postproduction, so consequently decided we couldn’t shoot film and get it developed in time. But we used the film test footage to create the look and LUT we wanted for that era.”

“We ultimately shot the 1970 scene with a Panasonic VariCam 35 at 1080,” he added. “We had a tight production schedule for our one-day shoot, and needed to shoot the 1970 scene at the end of the day. With the shorter days, I needed more ISO to get another hour out of filming so I shot the V35 with a base ISO of 5000 and dialed it back to 2500 ISO. To further help with the look, we filmed with a 1960s’ Angeniuex 25-250 lens.

“For the modern era, we changed cameras and used the RED Weapon shooting 4K UHD with modern Optimo lenses and a Canon Zoom.”

“A New Era” aired on “Sunday NFL Countdown” and is available on espn.com as well on the network’s social media platforms.
