Broadpeak Powers New NPVR Service For Orange

Orange, France’s biggest mobile and fixed broadband operator, has launched a network PVR (Personal Video Recording) service based on a platform from content delivery network (CDN) and video streaming technology provider Broadpeak.

This uses Broadpeak’s CloudPVR package, allowing subscribers to record content directly in the cloud and switch mid-stream between screens.

Orange subscribers can now store content from over 150 recordable channels, and are immune from equipment breaking down because the content exists permanently in the cloud. Broadpeak’s package also simplifies management, handling ingest and recording of ABR live streams. After recording live content in a single format, the CloudPVR packages and encrypts it on the fly in any ABR format, significantly reducing Orange’s cloud storage requirements.

“Video content consumption is rising, and we want to provide our subscribers with the flexibility to record as much programming as possible,” said Yvonnick Boursier, TV technical director at Orange.
