Aviwest Helps AFP Deliver Exclusive Video Of Chengdu U.S. Consulate Closure

​Global news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) provided live and exclusive video coverage of the recent closure of the U.S. Consulate in Chengdu, China, thanks to AVIWEST’s PRO3 Series bonded cellular system and smart-designed backpack. China ordered the consulate to be shut down on July 24 in retaliation for the U.S. closing China’s consulate in Houston, amid a general deterioration in U.S.-China relations.

“Providing live images from anywhere in the world with an easy-to-deploy solution has been absolutely key to our video and photo operations,” said Thomas Pam, IT manager for Asia-Pacific at AFP. “In China, the AVIWEST PRO3 mobile field unit provided a fast and reliable means of sending live footage from the front line as the event unfolded.”

AVIWEST’s system features a unique, compact design that fits into a backpack. The PRO3 Series leverages up to eight 3G/4G-LTE modems simultaneously to enable automatic transmission of real-time images and streaming of broadcast-grade videos. On top of eight cellular modems, the transmitter features a high-efficiency custom antenna array and a built-in Wi-Fi modem that ensure quick network acquisition and improved resilience in the field. Through the PRO380’s user-friendly, intuitive interface, AFP can instantly transmit live videos and photos without any action required by remote journalists.

Leveraging world-class, award-winning AVIWEST Safe Stream Transport (SST) technology, the PRO3 field unit applies special stream-grooming techniques to improve link quality and reliability.
