Edgeware Helps A1 Telekom Expand Streaming Audience

A1 Telekom Austria Group has deployed Edgeware’s online TV technology to help boost audience reach for its content and streaming platform, A1 Xplore TV.

This exploits Edgeware’s OTT CDN, streaming and packaging functionality within its recently announced StreamBuilder platform to meet increased demand for multi-screen viewing across multiple devices.

Launched in March 2020, A1 Xplore TV is a unified content and streaming platform spanning IPTV and DVB-C networks, iOS and Android apps, and Google Chromecast, for Central and Eastern European markets. A1 selected Edgeware’s StreamBuilder for its repackaging functionality, which enables conversion of just-in-time live and VoD assets into adaptive streaming formats requested by Apple HLS, Android DASH and Microsoft MSS devices. By keeping just a single copy of its video profiles and generating the correct ABR formats on request, A1 then benefits from StreamBuilder’s significant storage savings, according to Edgeware. The content lifecycle is completed with Edgeware’s OTT CDN technology, which manages content delivery to various clients.

“As we make the move from IPTV to OTT, we’ve chosen to extend our partnership with Edgeware as our trusted CDN technology provider and repackaging supplier,” said Alexander Stock, CTO at A1. Based in Stockholm, Sweden, Edgeware provides technology and products for IPTV and OTT processing and packaging.
