VITEC, a provider of advanced video encoding and streaming technology, has announced its MGW ChannelLink IP distribution gateway.
Designed for broadcast, enterprise and government applications, the appliance acts as a central hub where IP channels from the field can be received and reliably retransmitted live over any IP network. It can translate input streams into multicast or unicast MPEG Transport Streams over UDP (UDP TS) or SRT (Secure Reliable Transport).
The product is ideal for stream management, routing, rebroadcasting, or IPTV stream reflection over the internet or enterprise WAN (Wide Area Network). For broadcasters, it is designed to simplify content delivery of live channels from news agencies, as well as from sports or entertainment venues. It is also pitched at secure government and military full-motion video applications.
As well as security, low latency is a focus given its importance for IP streaming. Here it is best used in conjunction with VITEC's MGW Ace Encoder and Decoder in its ultra-low-latency HEVC profile, where the aim is to balance the demand for low delay with high video quality. It is also designed for remote production and contribution over the internet, avoiding the use of costly expensive fiber or satellite transmission infrastructure.
The product is interoperable with many third-party encoders and decoders, as well as being compatible with MPEG-2, H.264, and HEVC codecs at all the principal resolutions and frame rates.
