Rode Announces The VideoMic NTG

Rode has announced the VideoMic NTG, a new multipurpose microphone that works on video cameras, boom poles and computers via USB.

Rode’s VideoMic NTG, weighing 3.3 ounces, features a supercardioid pattern, infinitely variable gain control, uncolored sound and a flat frequency response. Onboard, controls include a switchable high-pass filter (at 75Hz or 150Hz), a -20dB pad for recording high level sources and a safety channel that records a separate channel at -20dB in case the main channel clips with louder sounds.

The VideoMic NTG is a new member of Rode’s line of NTG broadcast shotgun microphones. It offers a more compact VideoMic form factor atop Rode’s Rycote Lyre suspension platform.

The 3.5mm output automatically switches between TRS and TRRS to accommodate both cameras (TRS) and mobile devices (TRRS). There is no need for additional adapters. The VideoMic NTG also features USB output making it possible to record with a computer, tablet or smartphone, as well as an onboard headphone output for monitoring.

The VideoMic NTG has an auto-power function that automatically turns the microphone on and off when the camera is attached. It also houses a lithium-ion battery that is charged via the onboard USB-C port. Rode said the mic can be charged from empty to full in two hours and can be used continuously for more than 30 hours.

The VideoMic NTG comes with a foam windshield, an SC10 cable, a USB-A to USB-C cable and the rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
