Brainstorm Expands Its AR/VR Technology At IBC 2019

Brainstorm brought the latest of its Virtual Reality technology to IBC 2019, and showed it off with new partner relationships.

Brainstorm Multimedia came to IBC 2019 fulfilling promises made at NAB 2019 and showing off new technology with new partners.

“Here in Amsterdam we are delivering on what we promised at April’s NAB Show in Las Vegas,” began Miguel Churruca, marketing and communications director at Brainstorm Multimedia during our interview at their exhibit in the middle of Hall 7. “That means, among other things, the ‘3.1-ish’ production version of our InfinitySet virtual set creation system and real-time ray tracing boosted by the power of NVIDIA RTX GPUs.”

Brainstorm was actually celebrating its 25th year, and in its main demo in the green screen set we could see a depiction of part of its history.

“In our demonstration we are showing how our InfinitySet is much more than a virtual set environment,” Churruca told me. “It is a way you can engage with everything you can imagine in the broadcast environment.”

To accomplish this, Brainstorm calls upon the power of their own render engine along with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4.22 as well as Aston, the advanced graphics creation and playout system that is also now in version 3.1 and features a 360-degree output.

What we saw in Aston this year is that it has been split into Aston 2D and Aston 3D to accommodate different market segments since not all broadcasters want to utilize 3D graphics imagery.

“Along with that we are showing off our partnership with Dalet,: Churruca said, “who will be using our real time graphics engine in the next generation incarnation of their Dalet Cube.”

Brainstorm’s graphics workflow at IBC was completed with Neuron, their broadcast graphics management system, and AstonElections, the template-based elections and business graphics application. They also demonstrated their weather application, AstonWeather and interactive sports analysis, Tactica.

Brainstorm also had a presence in the Augmented Reality area of the Panasonic stand, spotlighting a bundle with Panasonic’s AW-UE150 PTZF camera.

“We even helped Panasonic augment the tracking data with that camera, and we showcased an enhanced integration with the FOR-A HANABI HVS-100/110 series mixers,” Churruca told me, “so our technology is being recognized by more and more other companies in cooperation.”

I’ve used Brainstorm for over 13 years now and have been trained in at least 3 other leading graphics brands. None come anywhere close to what can be accomplished on brainstorm / Aston. Automation and AI are becoming more and more requested and the brainstorm machines i use take it in their stride. Now that social and user generated content is becoming more of a talking point I am finding that brainstorm can accommodate any on air and live requirements.
