Journey is bringing the cost efficiencies of live sports “At-Home” production to broadcast news.
Remote (“At-Home”) production continues to be embraced by broadcasters and production companies around the world as a cost-effective way to produce live sports content. However, significant development and implementation costs have limited the use of remote production workflows to only the largest networks and broadcast organizations.
Now, a company in Hudson, Mass. called Journey is bringing the efficiency to local TV stations that produce news and special events by offering a fully managed video over IP service. Called NewsConnect, the service allows broadcasters to produce multicamera live remotes from their home facility using a pre-configured rack of equipment to send video over an IP connection. By simply plugging their cameras and microphones into the highly portable NewsConnect rack at the remote site, all sources appear instantly in their home video switchers and audio mixers, ready for production.
NewsConnect is powered by Journey’s IP transport technology, which the company said delivers multiple channels of broadcast quality video at extremely low latencies and with frame-accurate synchronization. Critical production features like P/L, IFB, prompter/return video, and tally functionality are also built in.
David Walzer, Journey President and CEO, said that NewsConnect is designed to be simple to deploy and once it's up and running, Journey staff manage the transmission to ensure successful reception at the home facility.
NewsConnect is a streamlined version of Journey's original Journey Connect service, which offers a feature set targeted to meet the needs of the sports broadcasting industry and it has been highly effective in that market over the past several years.
