Sony Buys Into Nevion

Norway-based Nevion is known for its work, products and software supporting remote video production via IP for tier 1-level live events.

The Sony purchase of a significant amount of Nevion stock was announced on 27 June 2019. Financial details of the transaction were not released.

Specifically, Sony Imaging Products & Solutions Inc. today announced “It has agreed with Nevion AS (“Nevion”), a leading provider of virtualized media production solutions, to establish a strategic partnership in the area of IP-based solutions for broadcasters and other industries. To reinforce this partnership, Sony will also become a leading investor in Nevion by acquiring a minority stake in the company through a share purchase agreement.

As IP network technology continues to transform content creation, Sony has remained at the forefront of IP-based, production workflow innovation. Through this partnership with Nevion, Sony will aim to deliver even more advanced, fully-integrated media production solutions, enabling more efficient technical resource sharing across the network, and taking the scope of remote production to the next level.” Sony promised the new partnership would take “the scope of remote production to the next level."

Nevion echoed Sony’s formal statement, saying it had agreed to “establish a strategic partnership in the area of IP-based solutions for broadcasters and other industries. To reinforce this partnership, Sony will also become a leading investor in Nevion by acquiring a minority stake in the company through a share purchase agreement.”

Nevion's press statement continued: “This partnership with Sony will allow customers to benefit from more advanced, fully integrated and standards-based media production solutions that combine outstanding media network technology with world-leading equipment such as cameras and switchers. These solutions will make it easier for customers to move to IP in their facilities and in remote production, as well as improve their ability to create content – for example through better sharing of resources.”

Nevion’s CEO, Geir Bryn-Jensen concluded: “This strategic partnership with Sony is a real vote of confidence in Nevion, its vision, its strategy, its people and its IP-based media network solutions. We look forward to working closely with Sony to maximize the benefits for our customers.”
