Scale Logic is a media storage provider that values educating its customers as its most important mission. At the recent 2019 NAB Show, the company staged a series of expert customer and partner testimonials, as part of its NAB Knowledge Zone at its booth, that revealed new insights and strategies for deploying its wide portfolio of Genesis media management and storage products.

The company demonstrated its Genesis HyperMDC storage array, which is designed for mission critical workflows looking to improve their green footprint with reduced power consumption without sacrificing any of the performance or reliability needed for demanding operations. Through the use of a power-efficient processor, the Genesis IAP (a 1RU application server) autonomously controls the operating mode to reduce the power consumption of the entire system. The IAP platform provides metadata services for a Scale Logic HyperFS SAN.
Scale Logic offers a wide array of hardware and software-based storage solutions to meet any media production need.
Underlying this hardware is the Scale Logic HyperFS: File system management software. It’s a scalable, high-availability, global file system that supports both block- and file-based protocols simultaneously to deliver both high-bandwidth SAN and dynamic, on-the-fly Scale-Out NAS functionality.
SAN clients and LAN clients can simultaneously access the same data either by file level (via Scale-Out NAS) or block level (via SAN) using 16/32 Gb/s Fibre Channel, 1/10/25/40/100 GigE, or ISCSI. This provides Windows, Mac, or Linux SAN-based editing clients with a way to share files using standard SMB, CIFS, or NFS protocols leveraging Genesis IAP integrated application server as a gateway to deliver Scale-Out NAS performance and enabling file-based workflows for LAN clients.
Scale Logic’s Hill also said that they are focused on educating the company’s reseller channels and sales partners to help their clients better understands how storage can improve media production and delivery.
He said that bringing an organization toward a new, more sophisticated storage solution is not without its risks, namely a lack of adoption among the people working with the data. For producers, editors and other media professionals who aren’t IT experts, the front end of any storage solution must be instantly understandable and intuitive enough to ensure a shallow learning curve.
New tools from software providers are helping to demystify storage and making it easy for non-technical end-users to understand and engage in an enterprise-wide storage strategy. Simplified user interfaces can help editors access assets quickly, while a converged data fabric platform can automate the storage, processing, analysis and management of unstructured data and media assets.
“As technology providers continue to make this process simpler for end users, we will begin to see more widespread adoption of robust storage solutions,” he said.
