SmallHD Unveils FOCUS 7 Bolt 500 RX at NAB 2019

SmallHD is introducing the FOCUS 7 Bolt 500 RX 7-inch HD touchscreen wireless monitor with a built-in Teradek receiver

The FOCUS 7 Bolt 500 RX 7-inch HD touchscreen wireless monitor from SmallHD is the result of a development process that Dale Backus, co-founder of SmallHD, said has been a goal of the company for some time.

“We are trying to make a line of true wireless video products for the indie side of the market that anyone can afford (MSRP $1699) and yet offers uncompromised quality,” said Backus. "This display can be used on-camera, or, thanks to its HDMI input, as a screening device for directors or DP’s, DIT’s, First AC’s, LD’s and others in the video village."

With 1000 nits brightness, its 1920 X 1200 HD screen with 323 pixel-per-inch density can easily be seen in daylight.

The display boasts wireless technology from Amimon that is latency-free because it is never compressed, and has a Teradek receiver built right into the monitor, getting its signal from Teradek Bolt 500 transmitters at distances up to 500- feet line-of-sight.

The FOCUS 7 Bolt 500 RX (and all SmallHD wireless monitors) effortlessly pair when both the RX and TX are set to Pairing Mode in the Wireless Settings menus.

“We think this is the lightest, brightest, most rugged 7-inch wireless monitor that you can find at its price,” Backus said. “At 17.2 ounces, it can fit almost anywhere. With 10-bit color processing, the FOCUS 7 Bolt 500 RX displays a color gamut of 75% DCI-P3. For convenient viewing by anyone on the crew, the monitors offers a wide, 160-degree viewing angle, horizontally and vertically.”

All SmallHD touchscreen monitors utilize SmallHD’s OS3 software and their PageBuilder user interface, providing customizable tools including HD waveform, vectorscope, false color and focus assist/peaking, anamorphic de-squeeze, framing guides, and storage of unlimited 3D LUTs via SD card. A built-in full size SD card slot provides additional utility, allowing the application of real time 3D LUTs, monitor profiles, and Image Overlays for shot matching. For focus pullers, a Teradek RT Screen Overlay can be enabled on the monitor, which allows distance markings to appear on-screen in real time, which eliminates the need to glance at the hand unit to verify distance estimations.
