One of the few things an engineer can control when sending video over a WAN is the edge equipment connecting the LAN to the WAN. Edge gear is critical because it is typically exposed to the WAN network.
DekTec feels the safest way to isolate the LAN from the WAN is to use an ASI-to-IP converter on the sending side. On the receiving side, the same rules apply when converting back to ASI to ensure the isolation of the networks and complete security. The receiver needs to be able to detect and fix errors using the FEC information and allow for jitter correction.
It is important to choose equipment that is secure, separating your WAN from your LAN while still allowing remote access for configuration and monitoring. You want to make sure the video connection cannot be used by hackers to enter your LAN.

The DTE-3120 is a companion device for the DTE-3100, the DTE-3120 offers ASI to IP conversion in the same fashion as the DTE-3100. The standalone power-over-ethernet enabled ASI to IP Converter, allows zero-jitter transmission of Transport Streams to IP networks. It provides time stamping for monitoring applications, has active loop-through with fail-over relays for input-to-output connection in case of power failure, and a LCD status display shows device identifier, bitrate, IP/MAC address and status.
