DishTV, India, launches satellite services based on the the MediaKind AVP 4000 video processing platform.
DishTV, India’s largest DTH (Direct-to-Home) service provider, will deploy the MediaKind AVP 4000 video processing platform to enhance video delivery to its 23.5 million subscriber base.
As a longstanding customer, DishTV has selected MediaKind to replace its entire headend infrastructure, including legacy technology from its DTH brand. DishTV will continue to operate MediaKind’s compression headend technology during this migration, helping combine traditional broadcast and multiscreen service delivery within a single platform. That platform includes MediaKind’s AVP 4000 System Encoder, allowing DishTV to embrace satellite operations for both of its brands.
According to MediaKind, this latest deployment will enhance DishTV’s operational efficiency by unifying the control and management of the two DTH headends in an orchestrated manner. The platform handles all primary distribution, direct-to consumer applications and service needs, covering video processing and broadcast performance. This will also allow DishTV to increase its satellite bandwidth efficiency and improve picture quality to its subscribers.

The AVP 4000 System Encoder was designed to deliver high-quality content as efficiently as possible while helping operators satisfy ever increasing consumer demand for greater content choice. AVP 4000 System Encoders have a modular architecture that permits on-site upgrades, minimizing maintenance time and any service interruption. They deliver MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC and HEVC compression with an upgrade path to 4K UHDTV.
The AVP 4000 video processing platform is part of MediaKind’s Aquila family which in turn belongs to the wider Universe portfolio.
MediaKind was formed during 2018 via a “carve out” process from Sweden’s telecoms infrastructure company Ericsson, which retains a 49% stake while private-equity firm One Equity Partners has 51%.
